Kino Club: Expanded Cinema

The fanatics, the madmen, the disinterested pioneers, capable, as was Bernard Palissy, of burning their furniture for a few seconds of shaky images, are neither industrialists nor savants, just men obsessed by their own imagining. The cinema was born from the converging of these various obsessions, that is to soy, out of a myth, the myth of total cinema.

André Bazin, What is cinema?

Expanded Cinema is a group exhibition curated by members of Kino Club, an artist collective that endeavours to create opportunities to watch, discuss and review audiovisual works from various artists.

Participating artists: Verneri Salonen, Xenia Ramm, Paola Guzmán Figueroa, Tomasz Sekular, Dorian Bajramovic, Lasse Vairio, Chen Yi-Wen, Teo Tornberg and Aleksi Salminen.

The exhibition aims to produce a daring cinematic landscape of installations and video works where the participants seek to shatter the boundaries of the screen and redesign the architectonics of the gallery space with the combination of three dimensional props and multimedia presentations. All these innovations provoke and inspire to reimagine the aesthetic and affective parameters of the cinematic. Spectatorship is being transformed by new ways of representing moving image and the cinematic experience.

Opening 09.01.2020, 17:00 with live music and performances. Screening event and party 18.01.2020 18:00 with selection from the open call. More info about the programme here
