It’s essential that I can lose my way at some point when I paint. That I don’t immediately know where I’m going with the painting or how I should proceed. There are some choices involved, plans and hopes, of course. There’s drawing, a canvas, paint and colours, which are associated with memories and references to the past.
I’m fascinated by natural materials because of the life in them and the way they change, either quickly or slowly. They remind me of taking a walk and listening the grass move in the breeze, or returning to the studio and seeing sandy paw prints on the floor.
