Scars, birthmarks, wrinkles. Black circles underneath her eyes.
There’s no space for wounds in the search for perfection.
That’s why I will repair her. Determinedly, I will hide every single one of her imperfections. One by one, I will obscure signs of life left on her skin.
The series is a tale of ambivalence: an exploration of deep inner contradiction I experience working as a retoucher of fashion images.
I do not accept what I’m doing. And yet, I enjoy my work. I feel dark, strange joy, participating in this equivocal quest for eternal youth in an illusory world where age can’t hurt us.
In these works, transparent layers are set above one another, leaving every trace of the masquerade apparent, every ghastly, lovely line of red pencil visible.
